10 Favourites by Cornish Keepers Holiday Cottages Cornwall
With over 400 beaches, Cornwall is a beach lovers heaven, but there’s so much more to discover beyond the golden sands. Our county is brimming with unforgettable summer experiences and in this month’s blog the team at Cornish Keepers Holiday Cottages Cornwall has brought together a selection of our all-time favourite summer days out. From the coastline to the heart of Bodmin Moor, these adventures will take you all over Cornwall, and we think you’ll enjoy them as much as we do!
Wine & Cider Tasting
If you appreciate fine wine and quality cider, we wholeheartedly recommend a trip to Trevibban Mill Vineyard, near Padstow. Offering guided tours as well as wine and cider tastings, this family-run vineyard and winery makes a superb day out.
Book a table for a light lunch on the balcony overlooking the vineyard – of course accompanied by a glass or two of Trevibban’s sustainably produced still and sparkling wines, or perhaps a refreshing home-brewed cider.
Outdoor Painting Experience
Join renowned Cornish artist, Toby Ray, on the sand at either Porthcothan or Treyarnon Bay and learn how to paint a beach scene using oil paints. In a 1- or 2-hour session, you will be able to create your own masterpiece and learn about colour and composition as you explore your own artistic style.
All materials and equipment are provided, and you will be able to take your painting home with you to bring a touch of Cornish scenery to your walls!
Horse Riding on the Beach
With over 3 miles of sandy beach, Perranporth on the North Cornish coast is a wonderful location for horse riding. Reen Manor Riding Stables in Perranporth offers a popular Beach Ride which is suitable for all abilities, whether you’re up for a gallop across the sands or a gentle horseback walk along the shoreline.
Reen Manor also provides lessons if you’d like to brush up on your riding skills – and do check out their Half Day Pub Ride for a bit of fun too!
Sealife Safari Boat Trip
If you’re looking for an out of the ordinary boat trip, Padstow Sealife Safaris organises 1–3-hour trips along the Cornish coastline, enabling you to see Cornwall’s stunning coastal scenery and marine wildlife. Regular animal sightings include seabirds, seals, and dolphins, giving you a rare glimpse into the natural world.
Reassuringly, eco-tourism is extremely important to the company, which operates in an environmentally conscious way, supporting conservation projects in Cornwall and making sure that marine animals are viewed responsibly, to minimise disturbance.
Swim in a Saltwater Lido
Penzance is home to the largest seawater swimming pool in the UK, which although just a degree or two warmer than the sea, makes a sheltered place to swim outdoors! Jubilee Pool is filled with fresh sea water each day on a high tide, and lifeguarded at all times, so you’d be hard pushed to find a safer cold water swimming spot!
For the not so hardy, there is also a Geothermal Pool which is naturally heated to a very comfortable 28-30 degrees. Oh, and also a sauna!
Pick Your Own Fruit
Summertime and strawberries go hand in hand! So why not take the family to ‘Pick Your Own’ at Mitchell Fruit Garden which is just a 15-minute drive from Newquay. This beautifully kept farm, in the village of Mitchell, has fields of fruit and vegetables which vary depending on the season. In August, strawberries, raspberries, currants, rhubarb and courgettes are usually in abundance, ready for you to fill your basket and enjoy!
Underground Caverns
Part of Cornwall’s rich mining heritage, Carnglaze Caverns is an underground former slate mine, which was created over 300 years ago. Today, you can don a safety helmet and venture deep inside, where you’ll discover 3 caverns, the third of which has a crystal-clear underground lake, adding to the magic.
But just one tip from the team at Cornish Keepers Holiday Cottages Cornwall, remember to take a jumper as the caverns are a constant 10 degrees underground, whatever the time of year!
Bike Ride in the Woods
Whether you prefer to mountain bike or hike, Cardinham Woods is a 650-acre woodlands that’s packed full of off-road trails for all levels. If you need to hire a bike, nearby Trail Munki can kit you out. And when you’re ready for a break, The Woods Café, which lies in the heart of this beautiful, wooded valley, serves lunches, bakes and coffee. Just the job after an action-packed session on the trails!
A Waterfall Hike
Golitha Falls is a beauty spot on Bodmin Moor where you’ll find breathtaking cascades and waterfalls along the River Fowey.
Surrounded by a network of walking trails and amazing flora and fauna, the area is a haven for nature lovers and a fabulous corner of Cornwall where you can connect with nature. Aim to visit after a period of summer rain to see the cascades and falls when they’re particularly dramatic!
