Marvellous Daycations from Your Luxury Holiday Home
It’s officially cosy season, and with Halloween behind us and (dare we say it) less than 8 weeks until Christmas, thoughts are turning to feel-good activities that will warm our hearts and fill the winter months with cheer.
The Cornwall-loving crew at Cornish Keepers Holiday Homes has handpicked a selection of our favourite festive events taking place throughout the county this November and December. From bustling Christmas markets to glittering light displays – gather your nearest and dearest and join in with some of Cornwall’s most enchanting Yuletide festivities.
Christmas at Cotehele – 19th Nov 2022 – 6th Jan 2023
Pay a visit to splendid Cotehele, a Tudor, National Trust property near Saltash, to see the famous Christmas garland that adorns the Great Hall – a 60-foot display of foliage and dried flowers that have been entirely grown and dried on the estate, and then skilfully handcrafted by Cotehele’s team of gardeners.
Once you’ve admired the garland, take a wintery walk around the grounds, following the festive lights along the stream to Cotehele Mill. Decked with traditional Victorian-style decorations, you’ll be able to see how families celebrated Christmas in years gone by.
Heligan Night Garden – 18th Nov 2022 – 1st Jan 2023
Just a 35 minute drive from luxury holiday home High Bank in St Mawes, you can enjoy a magical lantern walk through the gardens and woodlands of Heligan.
The 1-mile night-time route is beautifully illuminated with lanterns and light installations designed by The Lantern Company – an incredibly creative UK outdoor arts organisation.
And when you’re ready to warm the cockles, grab a hot drink to take away and seek out the fire bowls where you can toast marshmallows.
Mousehole Harbour Lights – 19th Dec 2022 – 6th Jan 2023
We adore the colourful Christmas lights that reflect atmospherically on the seawater at Mousehole Harbour.
From humble beginnings in 1963, when a local artist rigged up a string of rainbow lights on each side of the quay to brighten up the village, the display has grown year after year and now features nearly 10,000 bulbs that take the shape of festive symbols and even curious creatures such as a sea serpent and a whale!
We recommend picking up some fish and chips to tuck into while you gaze at the lights!

Fowey Christmas Market – 2nd,3rd & 4th December 2022
For a truly traditional Christmas Market that’s full of Christmas spirit – head to Fowey where you’ll find a myriad of artisan Cornish traders, live music, and festive family activities such as an Elf Trail for children.
This is a wonderful opportunity to support independent businesses selling local produce such as quality Cornish food and drink, artwork, skincare, and homewares. An abundance of gift inspiration to simplify your Christmas shopping!
Be sure to check out Fowey’s irresistible boutique shops, cafés, restaurants, and welcoming pubs when you visit too.

Tunnel of Lights – 3rd Dec 2022 – 8th Jan 2023
All generations will be captivated by the Christmas Tunnel of Lights at the Shipwreck Treasure Museum at Charlestown in St Austell.
Journey through Narnia’s frozen forests, Candy Land, giant colourful baubles, and glittering presents! As the UK’s longest tunnel of indoor festive lights, this is a holiday season must-see!
New for 2022, is a giant snow globe where you can take a picture in a fairy-tale winter scene, and we’re also fans of the family crafts and mini-German Christmas market that gives us all the festive feels!

The BIG Christmas Market – 2nd – 24th Dec 2022
Tuck into mince pies and mulled wine, while you pick up scrumptious food supplies and one-of-a-kind gifts at Truro’s BIG Christmas Market.
Taking place in the heart of the city, on Lemon Quay, over 100 traders gather to form Cornwall’s biggest festive market, with street food, choirs and entertainment adding to the jovial atmosphere. Visit the BIG Christmas Market website to see opening dates.

Eden Project at Christmas – 2nd – 30th December 2022
The Eden Project always does Christmas brilliantly well and this year they’re treating us to another delightful schedule of events.
The ice rink is back for winter and skaters of any ability are invited to glide on the ice! Skating aids can be hired to give children extra stability and non-skating ‘Parent & Toddler Ice Play’ sessions can be booked for children over 18 months.
Escape the winter chill in Eden’s Immersive Music & Light Experience. 11 live musicians will be filling the Mediterranean Biome with modern versions of our favourite Christmas tunes, and the sensory experience continues in the Rainforest Biome with light displays made up of fibreoptics, fairy lights and twinkling orbs.
For those with little ones, Father Christmas will be awaiting visitors from 2nd to 24th December in the tipis – with his newest helper, Elfie. As a special gift, children will be given a storybook of Elfie’s adventures plus a chocolate treat. Make sure you book your Santa experience in advance as it’s extremely popular!

Cornish Keepers can match you with your perfect holiday home for a pre-Christmas getaway or a week in Cornwall over Christmas day itself.
